'Scarecrow'
Jean Royle created this original card design in the 1980's. This design was created as a lino print and printed with black ink onto white paper. The 'Scarecrow' lino print card design shows Jean Royle's carefully constructed compostition with an apparently simplistic but clever use of black and white pattern qualities which reveal the influence that wood cuts had on her style.The mood of the design has moved from slightly gloomy, in the preliminary pencil sketch of the snowman as shown below, to humorous in the finalised version.
